When Natalie approached me to build her website for Wilderness Within, she didn’t yet have a brand — only a vision: To guide people back to presence, purpose, and inner vitality through nature-based coaching, NARM-informed trauma work, and recreational therapy. She needed a website that embodied the feeling of stepping into the wilderness: earthy, grounded, steady, warm, and deeply human. My role was to create everything from the ground up — full visual direction, brand atmosphere, UX layout, and complete implementation of this Squarespace webdesign for a wellness coach.

Background: Building a Brand From Soil to Sky

Wilderness Within blends holistic coaching, trauma-informed therapeutic principles, and the healing power of nature. Natalie supports individuals who feel disconnected, burnt out, overwhelmed, or unsure of their direction — people longing to reconnect with meaning, inner fire, and emotional steadiness.

But without branding or a cohesive website, her work lacked a visual identity that matched its depth.

She needed a website that:

• reflects the wild, earthy spirit of her coaching
• feels grounded and spacious rather than “soft spiritual” or overly clinical
• positions her as a wellness coach, NARM practitioner, and recreational therapist
• clearly organizes her multi-layered offerings
• evokes safety, warmth, and grounded strength
• feels like a sanctuary for people navigating overwhelm

The website needed to feel like the work itself: steadying, clarifying, and reconnecting.

The Challenge of creating Squarespace webdesign for wellness coach

Most wellness websites fall into one of two categories:

1. overly soft and pastel, OR
2. sleek and clinical

Neither represented her.
Wilderness Within needed something different — something wilder, richer, and more grounded.

The design challenge included:

• balancing the raw, adventurous feel of nature with the professionalism of coaching and therapy
• integrating four very different offerings into one cohesive system
• creating emotional resonance without overwhelming the user
• helping the client feel seen, safe, and understood from the first scroll
• crafting a visual identity entirely from scratch

Every element had to support clarity, presence, and grounded confidence.

Strategic Approach: Designing a Digital Sanctuary Rooted in Nature

1. Full Visual Direction (Fonts, Palette, Textures, Atmosphere)

Since no branding existed, I created an original visual identity inspired by the wilderness itself.

The design draws on:

• deep forest greens
• warm sand neutrals
• soft, organic contrasts
• structured typography
• editorial spacing and rhythm

This palette and typographic system create a feeling of grounded clarity and emotional steadiness.
The visuals communicate:
earth | presence | warmth | depth | invitation

The subtle decorative lines, layered photography, and intentional spacing build a brand atmosphere that feels both wild and refined.

2. A Calm, Clear, Intuitive UX Structure

The website is structured to guide users gently and intentionally — especially valuable for people arriving in a state of overwhelm.

The homepage unfolds in steady, grounded layers:

• Hero background image with earthy tones
• Mission + identity block on a deep green card
• Meet your coach intro with warm portrait photography
• Offerings grid featuring Coaching, NARM, Recreational Therapy, and Consulting
• Who I work with section designed for immediate resonance
• A call into transformation placed over a mountain landscape

Each section feels like a stepping stone — clear, calm, and digestible.

The UX mirrors the essence of her work:
slow down, breathe, reconnect.

3. Nature-Inspired Aesthetic With a Professional Edge

To stand apart from typical coaching websites, the design embraces earthiness without losing professionalism.

Key characteristics:

• earthy greens paired with soft beige tones
• clean, modern serif typography
• minimalist grids and balanced spacing
• photography that feels alive and embodied
• organic, grounded visual hierarchy

The aesthetic communicates both wildness and intentionality — perfect for a brand rooted in nature’s teachings.

4. Squarespace Implementation

I designed and implemented the entire site on Squarespace, ensuring:

• seamless responsive design
• stable and intuitive backend for client updates
• consistent layout integrity
• clean transitions and cohesive section spacing
• optimized load times for photography-heavy sections

Squarespace’s structure supported a clean, editorial feel while keeping the site accessible and easy to manage.
